Week 3 - Strikes are for Newsies

Well my friends, today was an adventure. The whole purpose of my mom coming out here was so that she could travel with me to France for travel week. We were planning on going to Lyon for a couple of days and then traveling to Paris. Understandably, we were both incredibly excited.

On our train ride to the airport, my mom received an alert that our flight had been cancelled. I thought, it's not a big deal, we'll just catch a later flight. There weren't anymore going to Lyon that day, so I thought we'll just take a flight to Paris and then a train to Lyon. Turns out the train wasn't going to work, so then a flight to Paris and a bus ride to Lyon. Turns out there is a strike in France and flights aren't able to land there. Okay so we'll take Eurostar. They are booked for the day. Okay, so we'll take Eurostar tomorrow and then a bus to Lyon. That's also booked. Okay, so we'll take a Ferry. You have to have a car. Okay, we'll take a bus. It's going to take about 24 hrs with all of the stops and is kinda sketchy for two women to do overnight. Okay, so we will swim. Yes, let's just swim to France.

Strikes aren't exactly rare here, but it wasn't on my radar of possible outcomes for today, so it took a bit of processing (yes, I'll use the word "processing" here ) to actually figure out realistic travel plans. By some miracle we were able to book Eurostar for tomorrow, so fingers crossed that works out.

We were in the airport for a while figuring things out, and I remember sitting there with the popcorn I bought looking at my passport case and realizing "take me anywhere" isn't exactly what I meant when I went on this trip. I meant, take me anywhere that I have specifically planned to go. It was a good life reminder that nothing is ever completely in your control and you just have to go with it.

Hopefully, my next post will be about France. If not, it will be about London. And that's okay, because London already has my heart. After our long day at the airport, I can't express how happy I was to be walking the streets of Kensington again.
