DAY 4

Once upon a time, I was twelve and had pretty much no friends, because I home schooled my sixth grade year and that was the year the my school district combined all of the elementary schools and everyone made their middle school friends. So 7th grade was pretty rough, until I made friends with Kirk and Leah. Kirk and I bonded (almost solely) on our love for the UK. I remember one time we were sitting next to each other and he said okay, I'm going to draw a map of eastern London and you draw western London and then we'll put them together. He's a map person and I am SO not, so his was pretty legit while mine probably had like part of the Thames and a palace. Anyway, we loved all things London.

SO Kirk is a flight attendant now, which is awesome because we were able to meet up in SLC earlier this year during one of his layovers. He texted me last night and said he would be having a layover in London today!!!!! I got emotional when I realized we were actually going to get to be in London together!! This place is all we could talk about in middle school. We met up at Olympic park which was cool too because we are both huge Olympics fans.

I'm going to stop writing and let the pictures/videos speak for themselves.

Also I went to church!!! We're (a group of about 6) assigned to a ward in Ilford which is about a 90 minute trek out. Assuming you make all of the right transfers (we did not). I realized how much of a privileged Mormon life I have lived, because I have never had to travel more than a 5 minute driving distance for church. Anyway, this ward was warm and kind and my kind of ward. One of the women there was wearing a Nigerian Iro and Buba. The bishop is from Ghana. This ward is so diverse and I LOOOVVVEE it. I love Provo, but I miss the diversity of the south constantly.

So I took the tube from our ward area to meet Kirk at the Olympic park and when I got off they were giving out free Coke. I don't even like Coke, but something about the free aspect brought out the inner child (or college kid - or doesn't everyone love free stuff?) and I just grabbed one and was sipping as I walked to the park thinking my life is great. Totally forgot I was supposed to be fasting (for religious reasons, not health ones goodness no) until I finished the coke. I said so many prayers asking for forgiveness and even extended my fast because I felt so bad. But the coke was quite refreshing.
