Week 3 - Hamilton
I realized that I titled a post "The Dream Day" way way way too early in this trip. Honestly, all of the days feel like a dream day, but today was especially special because I finally saw my dream show, Hamilton.
I went on a run this morning and I listened to The Hamilton Mixtape and I just kept thinking about how close many of these songs are to my heart. I also got to the theatre super early, and I just sat in my seat reflecting on how this musical has influenced me over the last three years. I've listened to "My Shot", "Wait for It", and "Take a Break" many times on my way to class and they have given me motivation when I was lacking. "Dear Theodosia" and "It's Quiet Uptown" are songs I play frequently on the piano; I find them both to be comforting and encouraging songs. I've ice skated to "Burn" . . . this list of memories just goes on and on. I was emotional before this show even started and it was a pretty constant stream of tears throughout. I know the lyrics/music very well for this musical, but adding the visual component created an entire new realm of connection and understanding with the characters and the story. My sweet aunt paid for my ticket and I am so incredibly grateful to her for that. This show has been a game changer in my life, and seeing it just continued the changing of the game. ;)

After I saw this show and sat down and ate. Oh yeah, I was so anxious/excited before the show that I couldn't eat anything. So I was VERY hungry and excited to eat when I got out (it was a matinee). But after I had time to process, I just felt super confident walking through London. I had some extra time before my next show and I walked through this super nice residential area. I've had a few moments on this trip of just feeling like I belong here. As I was walking through these apartments - it may have been my dress and heels - but I just felt like I belonged. Okay pause, I just looked up where I was walking through and it was where the law students live. Haha I was definitely on a high from the show to feel like I belonged there. But look at the pretty pictures of the Royal Courts of Justice.
After the emotional roller coaster known as Hamilton, it was nice to see a show that was just straight-up comedy. You might be thinking it's excessive that I saw another show after Hamilton, but this whole trip is about being excessive. The Play That Goes Wrong is British humor at its finest. I was laughing so hard that my stomach hurt. I felt bad for those around me, because I have a loud laugh that I usually try to tone down in public settings but this show was just too much.
