Week 3 - Mom is here
My mom is here!!!! It is SO fun to get to walk around London with her. She was able to come to a super inspiring fireside we had Sunday night with a British & LDS actress/director/theatre practitioner.
On Monday, she came to class with me, we did a little shopping, and then headed to the British museum.
Guys, this museum is cool but it is SO big and not super easy to navigate. Thankfully, my mom had a guide that my aunt made to help us hit all of the coolest parts of the museum. I would definitely recommend looking up what you want to see before you go, because there is too much content to just wander (which is my typical method). It's set up well, because it introduces the Rosetta stone, then you get to see all of the things that we can read and understand because of the Rosetta stone.
This little translated grocery list was my favorite part of the whole museum. It's from 100 AD. They were just regular people who wanted nice apples and eggs at a fair price. Humans are humans. Granted, this was written to a slave - so we have gotten better in our methods.
We ended the day with Indian food, gelato, and the play, Nine Night, at the National. This beautiful piece of art took the audience on a journey with a Jamaican/UK family as they deal with grief in different ways. The play has heart and the closing monologue is one of the most moving and living pieces of theatre I've ever seen. I hope this production continues on to West End.
